Die vak Wiskunde bestaan uit kennis en vaardighede met ‘n onderlinge verband wat die volgende insluit:

Kennis

  • K1: Getalle, bewerkings en verwantskappe
  • K2: Patrone, funksies en algebra
  • K3: Ruimte en vorm (meetkunde)
  • K4: Meting
  • K5: Data hantering

  • Dit is elke leerder se plig om toe te sien dat hy/sy korrek merk en dat hy/sy die regte antwoord inskryf.

Assessering Informeel

  • Times Table tests will be written on a regular basis. This will be seen as Informal Assessment.
  • Informal Assessment will also be done by writing unannounced small tests in class. Through this, the teacher, learner and parent can be up to date and will be able to see where the learner still needs support.

  • Laerskool Sedgefield Primary uses the Platinum English learner book that has been especially developed to comply with CAPS for English in the Intermediate phase.
  • Additional material to enhance and modify lessons are frequently used by the teachers.
  • There are 18 themes in total which contain activities for a two-week cycle, as set out in CAPS. Each theme starts with a clear list of exactly what is covered for each skill in that two-week cycle.

Each theme consists of the following sections:

  • Listening and speaking – oral and listening activities
  • Reading and viewing – reading text and comprehension skills
  • Language focus – formal language practice, with integrated language activities in other sections
  • Writing and presenting – essays, media text and transactional writing, using the writing process
  • Revision – language, comprehension or writing activities

Below are some details regarding the curriculum covered:

Listening and speaking:

Grade 4 learners build on the listening and speaking skills that they have developed in the Foundation Phase. During each term the learner is given a minimum of one oral and one listening exercise.

Reading and viewing:

A variety of texts are used such as: stories, dramas, poetry, informational texts, social texts and media texts.

At the end of each informational text, questions are asked which encourage children to reflect on what they have read. This activity can be used to assess their comprehension skills.

Grade 4 learners are encouraged to read one book per term (75-250 pages).

Writing and presenting:

The Grade 4 learners compile a range of creative, procedural and informational texts. Writing is important because it forces children to think about grammar and spelling.

Language structure and conventions:

A good knowledge of vocabulary and grammar provides the foundation for skills development (listening, speaking, reading and writing).

Grade 4 learners are encouraged to use class dictionaries and personal dictionaries to find/research the spelling and definitions of words.

AARDRYKSKUNDE / GEOGRAPHY

Sosiale Wetenskappe bestaan uit Aardrykskunde en Geskiedenis. Hierdie word as twee aparte vakke gesien wat saam bydra tot die SW-punt aan die einde van die kwartaal. Albei vakke word in al die kwartale aangebied.

  • The learners will each receive a Geography textbook, workbook, front page and a plastic cover.
  • Learners will use their workbook as well as their Textbook to prepare for a test or exam. Dit is dus belangrik dat leerders se werk te alle tye volledig, korrek en op datum is.

Grade 4’s are not used to tests and examinations – it is still new to them.

They do not necessarily have the skills to prepare themselves for assessments. During assessment, parents must therefore still help their children to capture the work and prepare for tests / examinations.
